The Lyrics to my Song

I sang a song during my time on the plinth. As it’s an original composition by my good self, I thought I’d share it with the world. It has an environmental theme.

The Elves Lament

The leaves are dying on my favourite branch,
and I’m not so lithe anymore.
Trees thinning out now,
squirrels hard to spot now,
and my little garden’s looking very poor.

What’s happening to my lovely herbal world?
My Elven kings just look the other way.
They’re embedded in the trunks
listening to the monks
analysing threats and power play.

CHORUS

There’s a fire in the forest
that no-one seems to see
started by the faceless ones
who say it’s necessary.
We’re facing the destruction of  our ancestral homes,
facing our extinction
I can feel it in my bones.

Why can’t I believe them like everyone else?
Friends lose their minds watching pretty things.
Snuggled in the branches,
while the rot erodes their chances
of hoping for the fruit the future brings.

CHORUS

There’s a fire in the forest
that no-one seems to see
started by the faceless ones
who say it’s necessary.
We’re facing the destruction of  our ancestral homes,
facing our extinction
I can feel it in my bones.

Smoke’s getting thicker in the trees now
and the elves choke pretending they can’t smell
(keychange) flames curling higher
I’m a victim of the fire,
of the ignorance that’s led us…
into hell.

CHORUS

There’s a fire in the forest
that no-one seems to see
started by the faceless ones
who say it’s necessary.
We’re facing the destruction of  our ancestral homes,
facing our extinction
I can feel it in my bones.
